This adventure started on February 3, 2009 during the 19th Annual Tibet House Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall in my home away from home New York City. It was an impulsive decision to attend and I knew no absolutely no one. Honestly, it’s when I step out spontaneously and alone, I find amazing things seem to happen.

I somehow managed an invite to the after party and spent the rest of the night mingling with the likes of Vampire Weekend, The National, Patti Smith, Steve Earle, Michael Stipe and Antibalas. There, I walked up to Philip Glass’ son Wolfe, who was also on the concerts line up that evening. Wolfe is a talented musician in his own right as well as an accomplished and much sought after Tai Gong instructor. Wolfe and I hit it off and just a few minutes later I was introduced to the evening’s host, Mr. Philip Glass.

Since that night…

  • Wolfe and I have become such close friends that he has been in my last two weddings and will likely make an appearance at the next one. (Kidding of course…)
  • Wolfe, his absolutely wonderful and talented mother Joanne Akalaitis and his father Philip not only supported me without judgement, during my journey into the criminal legal system, Wolfe literally drove me to prison.
